Thinking of Relocating to New Jersey?

Most of the students matched to our program are originally from New Jersey. Typically, they live at home with immediate family and commute to SEU as needed. The program has affiliated practice sites throughout the state so most sites are a reasonable commute. The clinical work requires seven weeks in Morris or Essex Counties.

During the first year of the program while taking online classes, you can live anywhere. In recent years, our program is attracting more applicants from out of state. Faculty are happy to have students from around the country interested in our Combined M.S. in Nutrition/Dietetic Internship and our choices of concentrations. However, relocating to New Jersey can be a challenge.

In years past, interns from out of state often stayed with a family member or family friend in New Jersey. Others have rented apartments close to the school or in another area where more practice sites might be available.

The cost of living in NJ is very high, higher than in many other places in the country. Applicants are expected to give consideration to this aspect of being matched to our program. All applicants to the program may be asked about their plans for living arrangements.

The Dietetic Internship is not responsible for assisting interns with housing arrangements. When appointed to the program, the director will inform interns, who are relocating, about the practice sites and areas of the state that might work based on overall class needs. Resident hall space may be available for graduate students, but cannot be guaranteed. Inquiries about on-campus housing can be made to the Director of Resident Life.

Commuting in New Jersey can also be a challenge! Interns will be expected to travel in congested urban and/or suburban areas. A reasonable commute is 45-60 minutes each way. The University itself can be accessed from NJ Transit trains, but a car will be needed to access most of the practice sites.
