Please note that this schedule is subject to change based on the ongoing public health crisis. Every effort will be made to contact all graduates regarding changes, but graduates should also make a habit of periodically checking this website for updates.


Wednesday, May 11, 2022

Academic Attire | Annunciation Center Upper Lobby | 12 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Academic attire and tickets will be distributed on Wednesday, May 11 from 12 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Upper Lobby of Annunciation Center.

It is known that the order will not include the master degree hoods. These will be delivered Thursday mid-morning.

Graduates receiving a masters degree: You may pick up your hoods on Friday morning at student line-up check-in. Please be at check-in by 9 a.m. so that we can ensure there is enough time to distribute hoods and line-up prior to the ceremony.

Doctoral rental attire must be returned to the University mailroom, located on the ground floor of Henderson Hall, by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

Please observe appropriate social distancing while picking up your attire.

If you cannot pick up your attire and would like to send a family member or friend, please email Meghan Aitken with your name and who will be picking up your attire.

Honor cords will only be distributed on this date to eligible graduating seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Commencement Practice | Dolan Performance Hall, Annunciation Center | 6-7 p.m.

Commencement Practice for all eligible graduates will take place at 6:00 p.m. in Dolan Performance Hall. Students can park in any University parking lot.

Class Blessing | Annunciation Center Lower Lobby | 7 p.m.

As part of Commencement Practice, Campus Ministry will lead those gathered in a blessing of the graduating class.

Champagne Toast | Annunciation Center Flex Classrooms | 7 p.m.

Following Commencement Practice, all eligible graduates are invited to the lower level of Annunciation Center, Flex Classrooms to celebrate and attend their first official event as an alumna/us. Business attire is preferred. Please bring a state ID for entry. This event is free, but RSVP is required.

The Champagne Toast is a special event for graduates only. No guests are permitted.

Baccalaureate Mass for All Graduating Students | Holy Family Chapel | 5:30 p.m.

Mass will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holy Family Chapel. Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney will preside.

Parking:

Follow the directions of our parking attendants. There will be dedicated handicap parking. To utilize this parking, the vehicles must have New Jersey license plates or placards. All others will park in the Annunciation Center or Santa Rita parking lot.

Student Line-Up:

Graduating students should report to the sidewalk in front of Holy Family Chapel no later than 4:45 p.m. to line up to process into Mass. In the event of rain, line up will move inside. Faculty will be present to assist and direct graduates. Please leave coats, purses or other valuables locked in the car or in the possession of guests.

  • Bachelor and Master Degree Recipients should come dressed in the cap, gown and stole. The tassel should hang to the right side of the cap. Don’t forget to bring extra bobby pins to secure the cap to your head. Academic protocol requires that graduates wear black shoes with academic attire. Low-heeled comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • Doctoral Candidates should come dressed in the cap and gown. Do not wear the doctoral hood to this event. Don’t forget to bring extra bobby pins to secure the tam to your head. Academic protocol requires that graduates wear black shoes with academic attire. Low-heeled comfortable shoes are recommended.

NOTE: Students who do not arrive in academic attire will not be included in the procession but may participate in Mass.

Masks will be required for all participants and guests at mass due to the increase in cases locally.

Guests:

Please give the tickets to guests before getting in the line-up. Guests should proceed directly to the Chapel. The Chapel will open at 4:30 p.m.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the William G. Mennen Sports Arena, a facility of the Morris County Park Commission. (161 East Hanover Avenue, Morris Township, NJ).

  • Parking: Please arrive on time, if the graduate is late, they may not process with their class. Follow the directions of the police officers and the William G. Mennen Sports Arena parking attendants. You are advised to not park the Shoprite or Lowes parking lots and carpool when possible. Any handicapped guests must have an official New Jersey hang tag or license plate to access the designated parking.
  • Student Lineup: Lineup for Commencement takes place promptly at 9:00 am in Rink 3. Do not arrive late! The lineup is alphabetical by degree earned. Faculty members will be present to assist with the lineup. Graduates can carry nothing into the ceremony. Please leave coats, purses or other valuables locked in the car or in the possession of guests.

  • Guests: Please give tickets to guests before getting in the line-up. Guests should proceed directly to the Main Arena, Rink 1. The seating will open at 9:00 am.
  • Photography: A professional photographer has been hired to take your picture as you receive your degree. View this flyer for more information.
  • Diploma Pick-Up: All graduates receive an empty diploma case during the graduation ceremony. Diplomas and one unofficial transcript can be picked up immediately following the ceremony in the Rink 3. All outstanding bills and fines must be paid in full before the diploma and transcript will be awarded. Diplomas not picked up by 12:45 p.m. will be returned to the Registrar's Office to be mailed to the home address.
  • Doctoral Attire Return: After the ceremony, all Doctoral students must return their rental attire to Rink 3. Upon return, doctoral graduates will receive a diploma and one unofficial transcript can be picked up if all outstanding bills and fines have been paid. Rental attire must be returned by 12:45 p.m. or graduates will be charged an additional fee of $875 for non-return of the rental attire.
  • Post-Ceremony Celebrations: Please respect and listen to the directions of the volunteers and observe proper social distancing as you depart.
