Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Theology Program advances the mission of Saint Elizabeth University by creating a community of learning nourished by belief in God the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Sanctifier, by the treasury of human wisdom, and by respect for the dynamics of inquiry and action. The 36-credit program offers students four possible concentrations to meet their spiritual, professional and personal interests:

  • Theological Studies
  • Spirituality
  • Pastoral Care
  • Catholic Studies

Program Goals

  • Provide students in-depth knowledge of the core areas of theology
  • Situate and appraise the doctrinal, spiritual and ethical developments in theology
  • Read and assess scholarly texts
  • Recognize and classify differences in theological thought
  • Construct a theological essay bringing research to written expression

Unique Elements of This Program

  • Students with baccalaureate degrees in fields other than theology are encouraged to apply.
  • Students will have the opportunity to earn credit based on prior professional or ministry experience via credit by exam or portfolio assessment.
  • Clergy or those who consistently contribute to the life of the faith community are eligible for a 50% tuition discount.
  • Small class sizes maximize learning and interaction with highly credentialed faculty members.
  • The program provides flexible hours for advisement and registration.
  • No GRE or GMAT exams required.

  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) colleges/universities attended

For International Students:

  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. International transcripts must be evaluated by NACES (i.e. WES) on a course by course basis.
  • TOEFL/IELTS (if necessary)
