Precision and Pattern Redux

Precision & Pattern Redux

On Display January 30, 2016 through April 30, 2016

Precision & Pattern Redux, a second iteration of a show originally at City Without Walls in Newark in Fall 2015, reasserts the importance of pattern and repetition in 21st century art, but reveals very different artistic motivations. Using traditional as well as new materials for the delivery of their art, these visual creators are investigating order and randomness to better understand visible and invisible patterns in nature, technology and human behavior.

Repetition in theoretical, calculated or physical structures make up their new perception of reality; and that reality is deeply altered by their current data-driven, mechanistic and universal perspectives. Telescopes calculate the order of distance across the expanse of space; microscopes measure the tiniest of complexities; and computers chart existing and conceptual tessellations and universes, all invisible to the naked eye but documented and inspiring to artists nonetheless. Each discovery brings more understanding about our origins but also introduces new questions about perception and understanding of the world around us.
