How can the counseling services team help you?

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling within a supportive professional environment can help you understand yourself better in order to making positive changes. We begin where you want to begin, and can address specific challenges that may be effecting you, while emphasizing individual strengths, resources and abilities.

Drop-in Sessions

Students can be seen for a brief consultation on a scheduled basis, by calling: (973) 290-4132. Instances you may consider a drop-in session could include:

  • Unsure if you want to start ongoing counseling.
  • You have a specific problem you would like to talk through.
  • To seek another perspective on an issue you are experiencing.

Crisis Intervention

If you are experiencing an emotional crisis please come to the Wellness Center during business hours (M-F 9-4:30), or call our office (973) 290-4134. We will do all we can to respond urgently.

Crisis situations can include:

  • Suicidal or homicidal thoughts
  • Significant self-injury
  • Sexual or physical assault
  • Hearing voices (other than your own thoughts) or misperceiving reality
  • Overwhelming loss

During nights and weekends, if you live on campus and are having an emotional crisis, please call the 24 hour Residence Life duty phone: (973) 985-7394. Staff will contact a clinician. Otherwise, call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.
