Congratulations on deciding to pursue an internship! The first step is to familiarize yourself with the Academic Internship Process and Academic Internship Handbook. Those documents provide the basics of how to proceed with securing an internship site and getting registered for the internship course.

Once you have read through the above documents, please meet with your academic adviser to discuss your pursuit of an internship, location suggestions your faculty member may have, and to confirm the number of credit hours you should plan on registering for.

Following that meeting, please make an appointment with Mayelin Torres, the Academic Internship Coordinator at, where you will discuss the steps for contacting your desired internship site, professional communication, and the paperwork necessary to register for the internship course.

It will be your responsibility to secure your placement site before the semester begins, which will require you to phone potential sites, send your resume, and arrange interviews. In order to ensure that you find an internship that meets your needs, we suggest that you begin this process at least 3-4 months before you plan to begin your internship.

Professional Communication

As you prepare for a successful internship experience, it is always important to remember that you are not only going out into the community as a representative of Saint Elizabeth University, but you will be making an impression that will carry into your future career. Communicating with potential employers in a professional manner is essential, and we are here to help you sharpen those skills.

Please contact the Experiential Learning Center for more information on resume development, mock interviews, SEU Connects, and professional communication in the workplace.
