Types of Grants

There are several types of grants available to SEU undergraduate students. The eligibility for these grants is determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as the specific requirements of each program. These programs are:

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based financial aid program provided by the U.S. government to help eligible undergraduate students pay for college. Awarded based on financial information submitted through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Pell Grant does not have to be repaid in most cases, making it an important resource for students with financial need. The amount awarded varies each year and depends on factors such as a student’s financial situation, enrollment status, and cost of attendance.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Grants are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Eligibility and funding is determined by the institution.

Urban/Distinguished Scholars Program

This is a New Jersey State Grant program. Awards are based on residency within the state and merit. Awards are $1,000 each academic year.

Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF)

The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) is a New Jersey state program that helps students from low-income and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds attend and succeed in college. It provides financial aid along with academic and personal support services such as tutoring, counseling, and summer programs to improve student retention and graduation rates.

Tuition Aid Grant (TAG)

The Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) is a need-based financial aid program in New Jersey that helps eligible residents pay for tuition at approved colleges, universities, and certain proprietary schools within the state. Funded by the state, TAG provides grants to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application. The amount awarded varies based on financial circumstances, type of institution, and enrollment status. Click here to apply for TAG.

New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship II (NJ STARS II)

NJ STARS II is a continuation of the NJ STARS program that provides funding to attend a New Jersey four-year public or private college or university. The NJ STARS II award will be based on tuition only for up to eighteen credits, except for Tuition Aid Grant recipients who will receive NJ STARS II awards based on tuition and approved fees. The amount of the NJ STARS II award will be determined after all other available State and federal grants and scholarships are applied to these charges, not to exceed $1,250 per semester.
