Before Graduating

As you prepare for the end of your time at SEU, here are some things you should know...

  • You may remain in the U.S.A. for 60 days after completing your studies. You may not work on campus during this time unless you will attend graduate school at SEU in the fall. You may, however, travel, pack and prepare to go home. Be very careful not to stay over 60 days, or you may be unable to re-enter the U.S.A. later, even as a tourist!
  • If you are graduating, you may apply for Optional Practical Training work authorization, but you must do so BEFORE the end of the semester. You may NOT start working until you have received your Employment Authorization Card from Immigration. (Please note that this application process can take two to three months, so apply early.) While waiting for work authorization, you may only travel within the USA. See someone in the Office of International and Multicultural Affairs for details.
  • You may also apply to a graduate school, or to some other academic program, at any time from now until 60 days after completing your studies. If your graduate school acceptance is still pending when the 60-day period ends, you may be able to remain in the U.S.A. while you wait for a response from the school or program you want to enter. See someone in the Office of International and Multicultural Affairs for details.
  • One other note: If you want your family to attend your graduation, see someone in the Office of International and Multicultural Affairs as soon as possible for a "Welcoming Letter" that they can take with them to the U.S. embassy when they apply for their tourist visas.

Transferring to Another School

If you decide to transfer to another school, please alert your designated school official as they must release your SEVIS record to your new school in advance of your attendance.

Keep in mind that once the transfer is completed in SEVIS, SEU will not be able to make changes to, or access your SEVIS record. All SEVIS processing will then be the responsibility of your new school.

As soon as possible, request the transfer form from your new school and share it with your SEU international advisor.
