The Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI) at Saint Elizabeth University will promote the individual development of Hispanics for increased participation in leadership roles in their communities.

Saint Elizabeth University through the Hispanic Leadership Institute Programs will offer enrichment opportunities to provide theological education that is historically, culturally, and religiously grounded in the Hispanic context and experience for those involved in Hispanic Ministry. This will be offered in various forms of educational opportunities such as seminars, workshops, community dialogue, special events and academic courses.

Our Hispanic Leadership tracks are directed toward both Hispanic and non-Hispanic persons interested in ministry within Hispanic communities and will provide contact with Hispanic experiences and traditions of the Catholic Church.

The Institute will promote the development of Leadership for ministry among Hispanics through its various venues: Certificate Programs, Pastoral Enrichment Seminars and a Masters in Hispanic Theology & Ministry (coming soon).

Seminar Enrichment Program

The Institute will promote the development of Leadership for ministry among Hispanics through its various venues: Pastoral Enrichment Seminars (Available), Credit Bearing Certificate Programs (Available), Spanish Diaconate Formation Program (Available) and Masters in Hispanic Theology & Ministry (In development). All of these programs are offered in Spanish.

Pastoral Enrichment Seminars

The pastoral enrichment seminars serve as an opportunity for evangelization as well as for growth in the knowledge and skills necessary for church ministry and leadership among Hispanics. The Enrichment Certificate program will include a series of eight (8) seminars. Each participant will receive an Attendance Certificate for each seminar. If the participant attends all eight (8), they will receive an Enrichment Certificate from Saint Elizabeth University.

Certificate in Pastoral Ministry

Mission Statement

Passionate for the Gospel, witnessing to the legacy of Vincent de Paul and Elizabeth Ann Seton, impelled by the Mission and Values of Saint Elizabeth University, the Ministry Certificate Courses of Study within the Philosophy and Theology Program support students in their quest for ongoing Christian faith formation as ministers and leaders. This includes formal classes, appropriate workshops, liturgies, days of reflection and retreats.

History

The Center for Ministry & Spirituality has grown for the past 28 years by building a foundation of relationships, lay and ordained, inter-religious and multicultural, that have shaped and enriched its service to the Church and those who love it.

The Ministry Certificate Programs are devoted to academic excellence, spiritual growth and the cultivation of ministerial skills and competencies.

In addition, the center is committed to continuing theological education and spiritual enrichment through its many programs, especially its annual Spirituality Convocation, Pastoral Days and Summer Institute.

Credits & Certifications

In order to obtain a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry, the student is expected to complete a program of 24 credits including an "integration seminar," which is a capstone experience. The participants are also expected to take part in annual spiritual events for personal and professional growth extraneous to but connected to the formal classroom experiences.

For the Diaconal Ministry Certificate - 32 credits are required.

Leadership Certificate in Hispanic Ministry

Program Overview

The Leadership Certificate in Hispanic Ministry offers courses that provide theological education that is historically, culturally, and religiously grounded in the U.S. Hispanic/Latino context and experience. These courses are directed toward both Hispanic and non-Hispanic persons who are interested in ministry with the rapidly growing Hispanic/Latino communities. The Leadership Certificate in Hispanic Ministry provides an introductory theological education for ministry and leadership in Hispanic organizations and communities. Courses in this program, available in both English and Spanish, are intended to assist leaders in strengthening the faith and witness of parishes in Hispanic/Latino communities. The program is also available to individuals who wish to explore educational opportunities for personal and community enrichment.

Taught in both English and Spanish, this program is available for both volunteers and professional staff involved in or considering Hispanic ministry. This certificate is the only such program available on the East Coast to Hispanic communities.
