Employer Responsibilities & Benefits

Employer Responsibilities

Internships are for-credit experiential learning opportunities that integrate knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skill development in a professional setting. As a core value of the Office of Career Services, internships play an important role in a student’s academic and career development. Guided by faculty and an on-site supervisor, students engage in structured work experiences that support their academic and professional goals.

In order for an opportunity to be approved as an academic internship, the employer must provide a meaningful experience related to the student’s major and/or career objectives. The job description should clearly demonstrate how the position builds upon classroom learning or academic experience. The following criteria, developed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), are used to ensure a legitimate and educational experience for students.
