Parking
There is a large parking lot to the side of the library, shared with the Annunciation Center and Santa Maria Hall. Handicap placard parking is available. For more information on parking near Mahoney, please see Parking and Traffic.
Entry
There are two entrances into Mahoney Library: a set of five stairs with handrails facing the parking lot, and a sloped entrance without handrails facing Henderson Hall. All entrance doors have pull handles to come in, and push bars when exiting. There are no automated or power doors.
Bathrooms
There are two wheelchair accessible, gender neutral, single user bathrooms by the entrances to Rainis Auditorium (one on each side). These bathrooms have automatic lights, toilet seat covers, and a lock that shows vacant/occupied on the outside.
Bathrooms are in main library building are in the same place on every floor, next to the elevator. There are only male and female bathrooms - no gender neutral or single stall bathrooms. The first and second floor bathrooms have four stalls, while the basement bathroom has two stalls. Each bathroom has an ambulatory stall with handrails, but none of these bathrooms are wheelchair accessible.
Spaces
Mahoney Library has three floors: the first floor, the second floor, and the basement. The elevator is located to the right of the stairs, which are open backed and made of polished stone. The landings for the stairs are also stone.
First Floor
The first floor is made up of three main areas: the Student Success Center, the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) area, and the library and IT help desk. The lobby floor is polished stone, but the Student Success Center and EOF have carpeted floors.
- High traffic area with classrooms, individual offices, and a study area. All of that means the space can get quite noisy
- The study area is bright, with both natural light and overhead lighting. There are comfy armchairs, couches, and rolling chairs at large tables. The space also has 7 desktop computers along the back wall
- Outlets are along the walls and embedded in some tables
- High traffic area with individual offices and a study area. The space can get noisy, but is generally quieter than the Student Success Center across the hall
- The study area is bright from windows and overhead lights. There are couches, armchairs, and wooden tables with rolling chairs for group study
- This is where you will go to receive IT help or check out library materials. The desk is at standing height. If no one is behind the desk to help you, please ring the bell and someone will come out.
- If you come into the library for research or reference help, you may be taken back to the librarian's office. This space is tiled, with a cushioned rolling chair for you. The room is mostly lit from the windows, with spillover overhead lighting from the IT area.
Second Floor
The second floor is split into three main areas: the quiet study side, offices, and the Academic Skills Center
- There is a Rare Books room in front of the elevator. It has three dimmable light switches that control various overhead white lights. When the lights are not on, it is quite dark. There are 3 armchairs, 8 individual study carrels, and a group study table with wooden chairs. There is some mechanical white noise.
- The open study area contains our print collection, group study tables with wooden chairs, a few armchairs, a couch, and individual study carrels lining the walls. There are outlets along the outside walls and on some of the support pillars. The area is neither bright nor dim and has windows on all sides as well as overhead lighting. It is wide open, although the stacks provide some privacy. There are whiteboards throughout the space, and dry-erase markers are available for checkout at the library desk.
- The Accessibility Office and Quiet Testing Room are also on this side
- 4 group study rooms with glass walls. Each room has a large wooden table, a large TV for sharing your laptop screen, and an assortment of chairs.
- 2 larger glass rooms: a computer lab with 12 computers and an instruction area that seats 16. These rooms are available to students when not being used by faculty or staff. Both rooms have large TV's to connect your personal device to.

- The room is bright from the many windows and overhead lighting. The back of the room has some mechanical white noise
- The second floor is also home to a few offices: the Campus Ministry, Student Engagement, the Accessibility Office, and the Testing Center
- The Food Pantry and Career Closet are also on this floor (see Brielle Allen in the Student Success Center for access)
Basement
The basement is home to the Podcast Studio and the E-Sports Arena, which contains the e-sports "cage" and a common area. This area is open from 3pm to 11pm every weekday. If you would like access to this space before 3pm, please ask at the circulation desk/IT help desk.
- Typically locked even when the rest of the basement is open - access requires approval from IT staff
- The production area is tiled with rolling chairs and a few windows to the outside. There are also adjustable lights
- The filming area is soundproof, with stage lights
- There is a partitioned room within the e-sports arena (commonly referred to as the "cage")
- This area is carpeted, with 17 gaming PC's set up inside and 6 gaming PC's set up on the outside of the cage. Each gaming computer has a colorful backlit keyboard and mouse, a pair of cushioned over-ear headphones, and a cushioned rolling gaming chair
- The windows of the cage are lined with bright LED light strips in RGB colors
- Outside of the e-sports area, there is also a carpeted common area lined with windows to the outside. Some of the windows have blinds, some do not. There is mechanical white noise throughout. A row of light switches on the wall by the entry door control various areas of the room
- This area has tables, couches, hightop tables with tall stools, and regular-height stools
- There is a PS5 with two controllers and a TV, as well as an Xbox Series X with two controllers and a TV
- There is a pool table with 2 cues, a ping-pong table with 3 paddles, a Foosball table, an ice hockey dome table, and an air hockey table
Computers
Besides the reserve laptops available for checkout at the circulation desk, there are many desktop computers throughout the library that you can use.
First Floor
- There are 14 computers in the EOF area (student success center B wing). There are privacy screens between each computer that create an individual space, but when sitting at the computer your back is to the room. All computers face the front of the building and are at windows.
- There are 7 computers in the Student Success Center A wing. Similar to the EOF area computers, there are privacy walls between computers, but your back is to the room. These computers face the back of the building and are at windows.
Second Floor
- There are 14 total computers in the Academic Skills Center area to the right of the stairs/elevator. 12 of these computers are in a partitioned glass computer lab, and two are at individual tables facing the front of the building
Basement
- There are 23 high-powered gaming computers in the e-sports area of the basement. Most of these are locked inside the e-sports arena, but there are 6 computers available outside the e-sports room.
- The podcast studio has two Mac computers; however, these computers are limited to users of the podcast studio
